Elegant and very functional English Davenport or naval desk, from the William IV period, circa 1830.
This type of writing desk was created for Captain Davenport at the end of the 18th century to store his documents in a small space.
The slightly inclined work table lifts up and gives access to a compartmentalized elm burl interior with a secret drawer. This writing desk moves back and forth to give ease to the knees. A shelf on the left to hold the cup of tea, a pen tray on the right for ink and quill, all the sophistication of English furniture.
