While still a student, he was selected for the 11th Teiten Exhibition in 1932 with his work Standing Male Figure. This marked the beginning of a long series of participations in official exhibitions, in which he won several prizes. During this pre-war period, Naohisa Unemura also became a member of the Japanese Sculptors Association as well as a member of the Nitten Exhibition Review Committee. The war forced him to put his artistic career on hold. He served in the army from 1939 to 1946. After that, he returned to sculpture, exhibiting again in multiple salons. At the same time, he held the position of professor in the sculpture department of Gakugei University in Tokyo. He died in July 1962, at the age of 53.
