Félix BERNE-BELLECOURLouveciennes, 1865 – Paris, 1905Portrait of the young Madame Paul CouradinOil on wood panel27 x 19 cm (42 x 34 cm with the frame)Signed, dated and dedicated top left “Sympathetic souvenir to my friend Paul Couradin / Félix Berne-Bellecour / 1893”Very beautiful original frameVery good conditionAn academic painter, Félix is the son of the painter of military subjects Etienne Berne-Bellecour. A good, classical artist who painted genre scenes and portraits. In the directory of Tout Paris from the beginning of the 20th century, there is a Paul Couradin, a lawyer at the court, who married a certain Léontine Oury in 1893, the date of our painting. Léontine Oury was then nineteen years old. She was originally from Loir et Cher like her parents. The couple remained attached to the Tours region, living between Paris and their property in La Flandrière in Loir-et-Cher. Our painting depicts the young bride, Léontine Oury, in Touraine costume. We can recognize the famous Touraine lace bonnet with an embroidered floral motif, the black dress with a collar, and the shawl worn over her shoulders. This costume can be found on old postcards depicting Touraine costumes. She also has a beautiful hairstyle with a braid tucked into a leather strap. A beautiful portrait in regional costume created by a friend of a newlywed friend and court lawyer known throughout Paris.
