"Transition Period Seat By Sebastien Carpentier"
Superb caned chair from the Louis XV-Louis XVI Transition period bearing the label of the seat carpenter Sébastien Carpentier. Original painted walnut. Sébastien Carpentier received his mastership in 1770 in Lyon, a student of Pierre Nogaret. His original label is glued to the inside of the rear crosspiece "Mr. Carpantier, Master carpenter, residing in the rue de l'Arbre-sec, on the first floor, in Lyon, makes and sells all kinds of furniture in armchairs, chairs, sofas, ottomans, duchesses, & others, both in canes, and ready to be upholstered; all kinds of beds with their Imperials, & generally everything needed to furnish apartments in the latest taste. Those who would like some of his articles, can come and see models, & he will accommodate them at a very good price." Stable and in good condition (small caning accident). Lyon work from the 18th century.
