Width of 119 cm x 174 cm in length in magnificent state of preservation.
Panderma today, Bandirma is located in the Marmara region of Turkey.
The workshops of Bandirma, formerly Panderma, were partially closed just before the Second World War.
Today, we can only admire these wonderful pieces with subtle tones in museums or certain private collections.
These very fine carpets are usually presented as prayer rugs with a central mihrab in delicate shades of old rose, pistachio, ivory or pale blue, the color of our model.
The blue symbol of fidelity and spiritual life is rare on this type of carpet.
A large board from which the slightly serrated Mihrab (niche) emerges, is covered with stylized carnations, yellow and red, placed in a very geometric way, as is the whole of this piece.
Above, a necklace of clouds, the symbol "Tchi" white on a red background, punctuated with blue flowers symbolizes paradise.
A wide border sown with burst pomegranates or red poppies on a white background, go in pairs hanging on stems and leaves in a geometrically bold design and very difficult to interpret as the shape is stylized.
In the Mediterranean basin and in Asia:
- The pomegranate is the symbol of marriage, fertility and especially love, it is a motif that we find on some carpets.
- The red poppy or the poppy, like many flowers of this color symbolizes death or human sacrifice, devotion, which is a rational explanation, the poppy is also the representation of darkness (goddess Nyx) in Greece, very close.
This symbolism is based on the narcotic and hypnotic properties of the poppy, a plant that is found generously in these regions and widely used in certain regions and religions.
However, the pomegranate and its symbolism are present in Anatolia and the Caucasus on many carpets.
The design tends more to the representation of a fruit than a flower.
We will not forget to specify that these carpets never represent the apple.
If some people were able to say or write it, this fruit even if it represents knowledge is also the forbidden fruit and a symbol of erotic associations in the West as in the East.
On the other hand, the representation of the apple blossom is a symbol of good omen and welcome.
The two bands, one red, the other cream along the main border are decorated with carnation flowers.
The carnation is the symbol of knotters in Turkey, it adorns many carpets.
This piece proves to us the beauty and the finesse of execution that the Turkish knotters brought to their work by contributing to the spiritual elevation and the devotion of their sponsors.
A small resemblance exists in the symmetry with the marvelous Koula carpets, but the geometry of the Panderma proves to be stricter.
