Important oil painting on panel from the Art Deco period representing - Cannes seen from the port and Suquet - signed lower right - Mério Ameglio - Beautiful panoramic format of 1 m 20 X 70 cm depicting an Impressionist composition with a knife, punctuated by touches of rich and vigorous paint enlivened by a beautiful palette of bright and sunny colors faithful to the Riviera. Good general condition. The work is presented in its refined old neoclassical style frame in gilded wood. Note a similar painting by the artist (smaller 65 cm X 54 cm) sold for € 3,300 at Drouot - see last photo - Mèrio Amèglio was born in 1897 in San Remo, Italy, and became a painter of the School of Paris. He is mainly known for his landscapes, scenes of urban life and seascapes. Passionate about painting from a very young age. Merio was associated with avant-garde artists such as Jacques Villon, Van Dongen, and Pablo Picasso, from whom he learned their techniques and methods. Merio Ameglio was an active member of the Paris Salon, regularly participating in its exhibitions. He came to prominence at the 1938 Paris Salon exhibition, when his oil painting Rouen Cathedral earned him an honorable mention. Merio is represented in prominent museums and private collections worldwide. He died on July 29, 1970, in Montmartre.
