Bronze Oil Lamp Allegory Of Study Empire Period
Oil lamp in chiseled, patinated and gilded bronze from the Empire period representing the allegory of Study in the form of a young woman reading seated on an antique oil lamp, resting on a quadrangular base in green marble.
Attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), this lamp was created from the drawings made for Sèvres by Louis Simon Boizot (1743-1800). Under the book on each side is a marking, perhaps initials?
It was later electrified with the addition of a glass tulip. The wires are not in good condition and the lamp has therefore not been tested.
