***********

Large ROUND PLATTER in pewter with a wide plain wing called "à la cardinal", entirely forged.
Master's mark attributed to Jacques HENZELI received master in 1663: crowned hammer / two stars / IH (In second hypothesis, Jonas HUGUENOD received master in 1677, is plausible)
Diameter: 44.2 cm.
NEUENBURG (NEUCHÄTEL), SWITZERLAND, Last third of the 17th century

In excellent condition and of very good quality; its large size gives it a beautiful decorative presence.
This form called "à la cardinal" with a wide wing was imported from Italy under the influence of Cardinal Mazarini and also recalls the shape of the shallow, wide-brimmed hats of certain cardinals of the time,
The forging phase took place after the casting. The aim was to bring the metal molecules together by hammering all or part of the surface of the reverse of the dish, to obtain greater rigidity. This work remains apparent by its concentric circles of friezes of facets left by the hammer.
