Pair of large portraits signed *Pierre Charles Cior early 19th century. The young man with chestnut hair and blue eyes is wearing a black frock coat and a white shirt. He poses in front of a property against a wooded background. The young woman, with her finely coiffed hair, wears teardrop earrings, she is wearing a light brown silk dress with delicate pleats and a white lace collar. She poses in front of a property against a wooded background. This pair of large portraits is presented in their original wooden and gilded stucco frames, retaining their period gold leaf gilding in good condition (slight old repairs). Canvas is original stretcher (some old restorations). Both portraits are signed "Cior" for *Pierre Charles Cior. *Pierre Charles CIOR (1769-1840) Pupil of Bazil. He exhibited a frame containing several miniatures at the Salon of 1796, and two other miniatures in 1799 (the portraits of Louis-Antoine Saintomer the elder and his wife). It was not until 31 years later, in 1831, that Cior participated again in the Salon. He made his last appearance there in 1838. He was the official miniaturist of the King of Spain and executed for Russia the portraits of Emperor Paul I and his wife, Prince Kourakin, Prince Nerarkin and his son, Prince Jnoupow and his son, Princess Poniatowska and the Dowager Empress of Russia. He is also responsible for the portraits of Pope Pius VII, the Queen of the Netherlands, Prince Eszterhazy senior, Madame de Laval, the Duke of Luxembourg, and Mlle de Montmorency. He also left a miniature portrait of Louis XVIII, a young portrait of Marie-Amélie de Bourbon-Siciles, last Queen of the French, wife of Louis-Philippe, as well as that of several other personalities, notably from the French Empire.
