Made entirely of finely carved solid walnut, presumably from a workshop in the Lombardy-Veneto area in the 17th century. The imposing, typically Baroque backrest features a symmetrical double scroll motif, culminating in a central shield-shaped cartouche, a symbol used in noble or ecclesiastical furnishings. The frame is embellished with carved and pyrographed decorations and plant motifs.
