"Che Guevara - Signed Photo Titled - Guerrillero Heroico"
Alberto KORDA (1928 – 2001), Cuban photographerGuerrillero HeroicoPosterior silver print signed and titled “Guerrillero heroico, 5/3/1960” in fineliner in the lower margin. Famous photograph of Che Guevara immortalized on March 5, 1960 by the Cuban photographer Alberto Korda, this charismatic portrait of Che with his dark and rebellious gaze traveled the world and crossed time. Korda tells us that a demonstration had been organized by Fidel Castro in tribute to the victims of the sabotage of the French ship La Coubre which was anchored in Cuban waters. A platform had been set up, it was then that Che Guevara appeared in the background of Fidel Castro who was in the company of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre. His dark and intense gaze was captured on the spot by the photographer. But this photo was not retained by the revolutionary newspaper "Revolución" which did not publish it until February 1961. Its notoriety was acquired after the death of the revolutionary, on October 9, 1967, when the Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, who had bought a set of photos of Che Guevara from Korda the previous summer, printed the portrait on several posters which he sold thousands of copies. The legend was in progress. Dry stamps of the photographer, two on the front and two others on the back.
