"Head Of Bodhisattva In Stucco From Gandhara"
Ancient region of Gandhara, stucco head of a Bodhisattva, 2nd / 4th century. This example of Greco-Buddhist art illustrates the fusion of the elegance of Greek statuary with Buddhist symbolism. We note the delicate arch of his eyebrows, the half-closed almond-shaped eyes imbued with serenity as well as the finely drawn hemmed lips. Finally, the Bodhisattva's bun completes this harmony of the two cultures. Provenance: "Asia-Africa" Gallery circa 1960, Claude de Marteau collection Sold with certificate of provenance. Dimensions (excluding base): H 15 cm x W 10 cm x D 5 cm Height on schist base: H 21 cm See this stucco Bodhisattva head from Gandhara in full screen mode on Vintage Addict
