"The washerwomen in the Paillon, Nice"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful luminous work by the painter Louis Bonamici which represents a lively view of the Paillon in Nice. From the 19th century to 1950, the Paillon was an essential place in popular life in Nice, occupied by laundresses who washed and hung out the laundry in the riverbed.
This work is a beautiful testimony to local life in Nice in the first half of the 20th century.
A fan of knife painting, Louis Bonamici strives to render the warm colors of Provence through scenes of sports and daily life. His works are created in a harmony of bright colors, his paint serif giving relief to his works, forcing visitors to step back to contemplate them.
He was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1921.
