"Pair Of Empire Armchairs With Swans In Mahogany, 19th Century"
Pair of Empire armchairs with swans in mahogany and mahogany veneer, early 19th century. This pair of armchairs with a wide, slightly curved back and recessed armrests is remarkable for the purity of its lines but especially for its armrest consoles representing swans whose wings support them. The front legs in sheath end in lion paws and the hind legs are saber. These armchairs are similar to the work of the Jacob family of cabinetmakers, suppliers to the Imperial court. Traditional upholstery remade in tableau for the back (and addition of springs for more comfort in the seat). They are covered with a mottled black fabric.
Good condition, beautiful patina of the old varnish, some differences in the details of the sculpture.
