Circa 1910
An 18k yellow gold ring. This finely crafted ring features a stylised frog delicately sculpted and lying atop a triple gold wire shank. The hind legs grip the band, while the front legs hold a cabochon of green turquoise. The eyes are highlighted with two small sapphire cabochons.
Ring size: 50 (resizable)
Weight: 14.4 g (18k – 750/1000 – French owl hallmark and maker’s mark)
Condition: Very good overall condition. The body of the ring is finely and precisely engraved, realistically depicting the texture of the frog’s skin. A slight trace of oxidation is visible on one hind leg, with no effect on the structural integrity or legibility of the design. The sapphires show a vibrant blue hue that pairs elegantly with the gold setting. The green tone of the turquoise may stand out — a result, most likely, of natural surface oxidation over time. This colour shift is common in antique turquoise and is often seen as a sign of age and authenticity. The choice of a frog motif reflects the Belle Époque’s fascination with naturalistic and animal-inspired designs — interpreted here with charm, craftsmanship, and refined humour.
