CHASSÉRIAU, Charles-Frédéric (1802-1896). Café for the Marengo Garden in Algiers (now the Prague Garden), (1849). Pen, watercolor, and pink ink wash. 45.6 x 27 cm. Small losses in three corners. Elevation and ground plan. Title "Façade du café, première étude" in the center of the drawing between the elevation and the ground plan. Signed to the left of this title: "Projet de café pour le jardin Marengo, Algiers 18 mai 1849, C. Chassériau". The Prague Garden was initiated by Commander Marengo in 1834 in the Bab-El-Oued district. Chassériau arrived in Algiers in 1845. He was appointed chief architect of Algiers in 1849. Ref. A10-9
