"Monastic Votive Base In Carved Stone – 17th/18th Century"
Carved stone votive base, probably in Jaïe or Siena stone, with a sober and harmonious octagonal shape. The top is decorated with nine finely carved circular cavities, arranged in a rosette around a central floral motif carved in slight relief. This decoration, both symbolic and balanced, evokes an aesthetic specific to religious art of the 17th or 18th century. This ancient object, most likely from a convent or monastic chapel, originally served as a liturgical support: perhaps for a novena (a series of nine prayers accompanied by candles), or as the base of a votive set holding lights or devotional objects. The stone, patinated by time, retains traces of use, particularly on the edges, which testify to its authenticity and antiquity. The sobriety of the whole and the quality of the carving make it a rare piece, both discreet and full of spirituality.
