Note: Jean-Paul Marat (1743–1793) was a central figure of the French Revolution, he is seen as a defender of the poor, the sans-culottes and the most extreme ideas of the Revolution. He founded the newspaper "L'Ami du peuple", where he often called for revolutionary violence. He was assassinated in his bathtub by Charlotte Corday, his death became a major event: he was mythologized by the famous painting by David: The Death of Marat.
