Description:
An exceptional small salon commode from the Transition period (circa 1770), showcasing the refinement and elegance of 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaking.
Technical Expertise:
- Cabinetry: Rich marquetry featuring rosewood and indigenous woods. The front and sides display stained wood inlays highlighting finely detailed vases and floral bouquets.
- Structure: Built on an oak frame (a hallmark of quality), featuring two drawers designed "sans traverse apparente" (without visible crossbars), ensuring a seamless flow of the marquetry design across the façade.
- Ornamentation: Original finely chased gilt bronze mounts: ribbon-style ring pulls, escutcheons, and sabots.
- Lines: A perfect stylistic balance between the canted corners (Louis XVI) and the slight cabriole legs (Louis XV).
Condition:
Excellent state of preservation. Period-appropriate restorations. Traditional French polish finish (vernis au tampon).
