Purveyor to Their Imperial Majesties 19th century
French cashmere shawl from the prestigious Maison Biétry, patented purveyor to Their Imperial Majesties, awarded a gold medal in 1834, 1839 and a silver medal in 1844.
This refined textile, made in the Villepreux workshops, was sold at the time by the famous Grands Magasins de Nouveautés Larue & Cie, located on rue de Rivoli in Paris.
This cashmere known as "Harlequin" is distinguished by the harmony and vivacity of its red, green, saffron, blue, black and white colors and the richness of its weave.
It has never been worn and is in exceptional condition: no holes, no stains, colors have remained perfectly fresh.
It still comes with its original label sewn on the back, as well as its period box, decorated with the green and gold emblem of Maison Biétry.
The inside of the box also contains a lovely illustrated envelope in gold representing the facade of the Grands Magasins Larue. Its original box shows traces of soiling and the ties for closing are no longer present (see photo).
