This plaster bust represents Louis XIV in his youth, in an idealized vision borrowed from classical aesthetics. The full and majestic face, adorned with a fine mustache, framed by abundant hair with long curls, evokes the sculpted portraits of the Sun King made by the great artists of the court, such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini or Antoine Coysevox.
He wears a richly sculpted ascot and drapery in the antique style, enhanced by armor decorated with a mask affirming both the power and the ancient heritage of the sovereign.
This type of bust, widely distributed in the 19th century, adorned private mansions, libraries or reception rooms and paid homage to the iconography of absolute power And to the great sculptors of the 17th century.
