Painter born in Aix en Provence, Louis Leydet was very early supported by Paul Cézanne who noticed the quality of his painting very early on. In 1902, in a letter to Charles Camoin he wrote: "I received news from Claude Monet and the card of Louis Leydet, son of the Senator of Aix. The latter is of the same ideas as you and me.
