Signed “S. Mendjisky” lower right.
Serge Mendjisky (1929-2017) is a French painter and photographer born in Paris. Immersed in the art world from his childhood thanks to his father, Maurice Mendjisky, a member of the Ecole de Paris, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts. He then became known through exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Japan. Initially focusing his career on painting, he drew close to post-impressionist and pointillist painters in his style and technique. He then made photography his main means of expression from the 2000s, creating multidimensional works with cubist accents through collages of different photographic images of famous cities, such as New York or Venice. Today, his works are exhibited at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, among others.
