Origin: In the mid-1950s, Lino Sabattini opened a goldsmith workshop in Milan which quickly attracted the attention of Gio Ponti. The latter dedicated an article to him in Domus magazine and presented his works in 1956 in Paris in an exhibition devoted to Italian design. Sabatini then obtained international recognition and became design director for Christofle Orfèvrerie (which had bought Cardeilhac in 1951). He breathed a breath of fresh air into this house founded in 1830, by imagining cutlery, shaped pieces and candlesticks with modernist lines for the "Formes nouvelles" collection.
The Como model is most often made in silver-plated metal by Christofle for the Gallia collection. This silver edition by Christofle-Cardeilhac is therefore particularly rare.
