An Italian Veneered Olive Wood And Burl Bureau Cabinet, Ebonized Frames, Lombardy, 18th Century

A veneered olive wood and burl bureau cabinet, with ebonized frames, of Lombard provenance, 18th century. The piece features a bombé shape, with the lower section comprising three shaped drawers and a drop-front panel that conceals six small drawers. The upper section consists of two doors with mercury mirrors, topped by a shaped pediment. The sides are fully shaped, and the entire piece rests on tapered and fluted pillar-like supports. Attribution to the Valentini workshop is supported by several elements. The decoration, characterized by delicate ebonized moldings forming airy and refined patterns on the front, the drop-front surface, and the sides—albeit with variations in design and arrangement—represents a distinctive hallmark of the workshop. Additional features include ebonized edges with walnut burl inlays and a slightly urn-shaped central section, consistent with the stylistic motifs typical of the Valentini workshop.
