"Louis XV Baroque Style Silver Photo Frame By Gustave Marmus"
Very original this French silver frame with a wide baguette in a Louis XV baroque style with radiating gadroons with a double finish. If the background is made in a matte polish, the raised rocaille motifs on top are in a glossy finish, thus creating a contrast. Note that the decoration continues on the sides of the frame. It has its original chamfered glass, its back is in leather and the rear foot has been redone in paper in an identical way. It is signed twice by the silversmith GM to be identified as Gustave Marmus, born in 1839 and active during the second half of the 19th century. The second mark is smaller and is more his signature or he makes a pun with his name by representing a muse in a pond (Marmus). The silver hallmark remains to be determined.
Dimensions for the photo 14 x 9.5 cm
