Biography

André Cazenave (1928-2003)

André Cazenave is mainly known for his luminous sculptures edited by Atelier A and Pierre Disderot in the 1960s and 1970s. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use: its pebbles (Dorra model), cubes, pyramids, corals, Greek inspired busts and so on. These lamps are all handmade of polyester or fiberglass coated with marble powder. And they have an aluminium base were the electric parts are attached.

Story

Atelier A.

It was on the initiative of François Arnal, painter and sculptor, that Atelier A was created in 1968, a kind of furniture production company for artists: César, Jean-Michel Sanejouand, Robert Malaval, Annette Messager , François Arnal himself and many others are thus called upon to propose projects for chairs, armchairs, tables and lamps.

The enterprise, which lasted only a few years, is nevertheless remarkable for its ability to decompartmentalize disciplines, and to realize, in these few concrete objects, the old utopia of a union of art and life.
