Duchess "in Boat" Louis XVI
Duchess called "in Boat" from the Louis XVI period. It rests on 8 tapered, fluted Louis XVI legs. The wooden part is in Walnut. The upholstery and the fabric (more recent) have been cleaned, but not changed. Fairly good general condition of the fabric, in Lyon silk. Duchess: chaise longue with full cheeks, rounded and curved back, with an elongated seat. We call "duchesse en bateau" (or en gondola) the chaise longue in one part with a double bedside table (the broken duchess is broken down into two parts). (Cf Dictionary of Antiques and Flea Market).
