Bust Of The Emperor Vespasian, Theater Set In The Style Of Antiquity, Paper On Panel
Large bust representing an effigy of the Emperor Vespasian on a pedestal, the toga held by a circular fibula. Work carried out in the spirit of engraving; volumes, lights and shadows are rendered by hatching work giving the whole a very graphic aspect, and the illusion of three-dimensionality. It is paper laminated on a thin wooden board cut to the dimensions of the silhouette. Easel foot on the reverse, a little loose but which holds. The reverse is covered with papers consisting mainly of accounting documents from the 18th century, also laminated. There are significant water stains in some places, as shown in the photographs. A very decorative piece, probably an element of theater scenery, in the taste of Antiquity and which is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Fornasetti.
