Impressive Shahsavan kilim from Persia. The piece is signed (see photos). Woven wool on wool in the traditional way. The weave is extremely fine and refined, the piece is supple. The plant shades are very fresh, the indigo blues are dense and saturated. It is a marvel with striking contrasts, notably with its large ram's horn patterns in white. This type of dimension is extremely rare in antique kilims, which leads me to believe that this kilim was probably commissioned by its first owner, who undoubtedly belonged to high society...
