"Child Jesus In Polychrome Wood. Spain Or Germany, 17th Century."
Very beautiful standing polychrome wooden Child Jesus with the orb in his left hand (now missing). This example of a polychrome wooden Child Jesus is particularly attractive and finely carved. Its style owes its origin to the models created by the early 17th-century Sevillian sculptor Juan Martínez Montañés, nicknamed "El dios de la madera" (the god of wood). Montañés established the canonical representation of the Sevillian Child Jesus with his Child Jesus in the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament, in Seville, in 1606. Very beautiful modeling of the body and beautiful expression of the face. The hairstyle is also very beautiful and finely carved. Hands glued. Baroque work of the 17th century. Probably Spain, School of Seville.
