"Robert Savary (1920-2000) Oil On Canvas Depicting A Provençal Landscape "
Robert SAVARY (1920-2000) Oil on canvas depicting a Provençal landscape Dimensions: stretcher: 50 x 61.5 cm frame: 69.5 x 81 cm Figurative painter and engraver, Robert Savary was part of the "Jeune Peinture", also called the "Jeune Peintres" of the Nouvelle École de Paris or "Jeune Peinture de l'École de Paris". A student of Maurice Brianchon at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he won, among other things, the Casa de Velãquez prize in 1948 and the Prix de Rome in 1950. Through its qualities of light, Robert Savary's work is situated in a particular tradition of French painting, that of clear painting, made of pleasure and radiance. After living two years in Madrid, he returned to Paris in 1949 and was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Museum of Fine Arts of Rouen. Savary exhibited his work in many prestigious salons from 1946 onwards, including the Salon de Mai, the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts. He also participated in the Second Sao Paolo Biennale and his work was exhibited at the Galerie Drouant-David and the Galerie Charpentier in Paris in 1955. In 1960, the Musée Galliera in Paris offered him a solo exhibition. He received numerous accolades for his work, including a Gold Medal in 1975 at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, a Silver Medal in 1958 at the Salon de la Marine in Paris followed two years later by a Gold Medal. Savary's paintings can be serene and calm, or full of activity and movement. He learned Matisse's lesson, revealing in his paintings a "joie de vivre" full of life and animation. With an enthusiastic temperament, he painted subjects on location that exude joy, happiness and life. Throughout his career, he never ceased to be amazed by the beauty of nature and women's bodies, but also by the hidden beauty of the intimate and everyday. He synthesized realism, impressionism and fauvism in his painting. His color palette is most often vivid and gives his painting, made of pleasure and radiance, a very particular light. The artist painted nature and landscapes as he traveled and lived in the places where he lived.
