"The Virgin And Child With Saint Dominic And Saint Ursula, 16th Century Giovanni Bellin"
The Virgin and Child with Saints Dominic and Ursula, 16th centurySchool of Giovanni Bellini (1430-1516)Large Old Master oil on panel painting from the Venetian school of around 1500, depicting the Virgin and Child accompanied by Saints Ursula and Leonard. Devotional scene: the Virgin and Child, flanked by Saints Dominic and Ursula (depicted holding an arrow and a book), is presented before a black cloth revealing a landscape. In the distance, the fortification and grazing lambs are depicted, embodying the virtues of strength and innocence. The panel shows little surface restoration, with slight bending and no significant cracks. There is evidence of ancient inactive woodworm that has been treated. We are in the process of fully restoring the work. This work is typical of Bellini and his school, and earlier works on the painting refer to Bellini.
