Charming lively oil on canvas depicting Fort St Jean at the entrance to the port of Marseille. In the foreground, we can see two rowboats crossing the channel and in the background the old port occupied by ships of the French Navy. Beautiful brushstroke for this canvas executed in the middle of the 19th century, unsigned. Probably an official painter of the Navy because the back of the frame is struck with a naval anchor. Canvas cleaned and restored (see piece on the back) Measures 26.5 x 40.5
