"Large Plaster Head Of Emperor Gaius Octavius From The 19th Century "
Our emperor's head dates from the second half of the 19th century. It was intended to adorn a neoclassical interior. It is without seams and its rear base was worked like marble, which was not the case with the less finished casts intended for the schools of Fine Arts. Its beautiful patina is original, some light retouching and restorations to be noted. This is Caius Octavius born in 63 BC, adopted in 45 BC by his great-uncle Julius Caesar under the name of Caius Julius Octavianus. In 27 BC, he was titled Augustus by the Roman Senate. He was the first Roman emperor from 27 BC until 14 AD.
