A very beautiful copy from the 19th century, probably a souvenir of the Grand Tour, very well executed and with particularly fine details.
Our Venus measures 55 cm high, the quality of the marble is very beautiful and with an old but clean patina.
The quality of the marble plays well with the light, letting shadows appear, highlighting the shapes of this beautiful callipygian Venus.
She is accompanied by a dolphin at her feet ridden by two winged putti who seem to be playing with the latter.
The statue has been cleaned while leaving its old patina.
Some missing fingers were redone in the 20th century, one is missing on the left hand.
A beautiful souvenir of the Grand Tour, a great classic of antiquity.
The Venus de Medici is a famous Greek marble sculpture representing the goddess Aphrodite (Venus for the Romans). It is a copy from the 1st century BC. BC of an original bronze statue, of the type of the Aphrodite of Cnidus[1], which is believed to have been made by a pupil of Praxiteles. It has become a landmark in the evolution of the Western classical tradition. It is located in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, more precisely in the Uffizi gallery. The goddess is depicted in a fleeting pose, as if surprised at the moment she emerges from the waves, as suggested by a dolphin at her feet, which may not be part of the original bronze.
