Raphaël Ernest Laynaud (1841 - 1928), was a French painter born on January 1, 1841 in Paris. Coming from a family of artists, he was the son of François Louis Laynaud, a history and genre painter. His brother, Louis Paul Eugène Laynaud, was also an artist. Ernest Laynaud studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was admitted on November 28, 1862. He was a student in the studios of Victor Baltard, Hippolyte Lebas and Léon Ginain. As a painter, Laynaud specialized in landscapes and genre scenes. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1878, 1879 and 1883, receiving a 3rd class medal.
