"Furcy De Lavault (1847-1915) Irises And Lilacs"
Thibule Marie Furcy de Lavault learned to draw at the Saintes college at the age of 17. Suffering from lead poisoning, he turned to easel painting after being introduced by Savarin, a Bordeaux painter. He began his career as a portrait painter and then specialized as a flower painter. In 1870, he began exhibiting in Bordeaux, mainly landscapes and some still lifes. In the 1880s, he became a virtuoso of flower painting. An excellent draftsman, his canvases are delicate, rich in texture and color. He participated in the Paris Salon and in many French regions.
