"Painting By Alfred Godchaux, 19th Century, "the Bosphorus In Constantinople""
Extremely rare in large format and very pretty view of the Bosphorus in Constantinople (now Istanbul) from the end of the 19th century (1890), signed lower left by Alfred GODCHAUX (1839-1907). Certainly a work given its size, executed for an order or a salon, on its original canvas with a beautiful frame with moldings gilded with fine gold. He was a student of Gustave COURBET, specialist in Pyrenean landscapes but also views of Constantinople and Venice, he was from 1880 a member of the southwest section of the French Alpine Club then chaired by Franz SCHRADER. He was exhibited at numerous salons and was recognized as a talented and very prolific landscaper. Exhibited in many museums and referenced in the Benezit and masters of the 19th century by G. SCHURR.
