"Set Of Five Large Painted Canvases From The 18th Century "
A series of five 18th century painted canvases imitating tapestries in very good condition (small old restorations and linings for several pieces). This rare complete series includes two large compositions decorated with greenery depicting lake landscapes populated by birds, herons, ducks, etc. In abundant vegetation punctuated by lakes and rivers, buildings stand out in the background, including an abbey recognizable by the bell tower of its church, farms and castles. The two large pieces are complemented by three others in vertical format, undoubtedly intended to decorate window openings, but which can be presented side by side without difficulty. They have the same type of decoration. All the canvases have retained their original decorative border with a motif of white, blue and red colored flowers, imitating that of the tapestries. Several of them have inscriptions on the back indicating their dimensions in alders, confirming their ancient dating. It is rare to preserve such a complete decorative ensemble, these pieces having often been dispersed. With their rich and highly coherent decoration, they are ideal for adorning a beautiful ceremonial room.
