"Pair Of Art Nouveau Vases By Gustave Asch With Chestnut Tree Decor "
Two porcelain vases with intricate decoration of chestnut branches and chestnuts in their gold burrs on a Tours blue background. The motif covering the neck and belly of each vase is typical of the Art Nouveau decorations of the French ceramist Frédéric Gustave Asch (1856-1911). Active towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Asch is particularly known for his Tours blue, a dark blue enamel close to the famous Sèvres blue. In his workshops in Tours, he produced vases in glazed Tours blue ceramic, enhanced with delicate golden naturalistic motifs, notably chestnut branches.
