Rare terracotta medallion in high relief representing Jacques Donatien Leray de Chaumont by Jean Baptiste Nini (1717/ 1786). This artist of Italian origin had his model as a patron. He had worked in the management of his terracotta factory at the Château de Chaumont sur Loire. As a sculptor and medalist, this artist specialized in the creation of medallions representing noble figures of his time without forgetting secondary characters. His technique, the finesse of his lands made him very famous. JD Leray de Chaumont (1726/1823) is a wealthy financier who made his fortune in particular in maritime trade. He was an important supporter of the American Revolution. The portrait proposed may date from 1771, the year the model became intendant of the Invalides. This rare piece is in perfect condition.
