"Silver Setla, Algeria, 19th Century"
Hammam bowl, called setla, with a movable handle in chased and embossed silver decorated with flowers and foliage. A Rub El Hizb, surrounding a crescent moon and a six-pointed star, adorns the reverse of the setla. This motif, formed by two squares, one of which is inclined at 45 degrees and whose name means “quarter section”, is used to mark the end of a surah in the Koran and is also used as an ornament in traditional Arab-Muslim art.
Two first-grade Minerva hallmarks, on the handle and around the bowl.
Slight indentation on the body of the bowl.
Note an irregularity on the foot.
Good condition.
