"Virgin "
Superb painted plaster Virgin Mary produced at the end of the 19th century by the MAYER workshops in Munich. The Virgin Mary is depicted standing in a dress sumptuously decorated with a diamond pattern with a cross in the center. She wears a crown of roses, her long hair wavy down her back and held back by a long scarf falling on each side of her body. She is depicted in a classic iconography of Christian art, trampling the serpent holding the apple in its mouth. The whole is of magnificent craftsmanship and the statue is in a beautiful state of preservation with some very slight paint chips that do not affect the beautiful condition of the object. Joseph Gabriel MAYER founded his own workshop in 1836 near Munich and received numerous orders from churches in Bavaria. In 1865 he opened a branch in London and was granted the title of court purveyor by Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1882. Dimensions: Height 87 cmWidth 27 cmDepth 18 cm
