France, second half of the 19th centuryDimensions: H 31 × W 28 × D 23 cmSuperb centerpiece or vase in finely chased gilt bronze, resting on an openwork tripod base richly decorated with acanthus leaves, lion masks, paw-shaped feet and volutes. The central bowl is surrounded by finely detailed friezes depicting putti in classical scenes, framed by engraved borders and flanked by elegantly curved handles.This work is attributed to Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892), one of the most renowned bronze casters of the 19th century. Although unsigned, it corresponds perfectly to a documented model bearing his signature. The quality of the casting, the decorative richness and the stylistic unity are typical of the finest productions of the Barbedienne house. A decorative piece of museum caliber - elegant, sculptural, and emblematic of the grandeur of the Napoleon III era.
