Signed "SEM" (Georges Goursat dit SEM (1863-1934)) 20th century period, circa 1910. Marie Joseph Georges Goursat dit Sem, born November 22, 1863 in Périgueux and died November 24, 1934 in Paris, is a French illustrator, poster artist, caricaturist, society columnist, and writer. The world of racing gives Sem his passport to high society, the field of observation for all his production. With his silhouettes of Tout-Paris and thanks to his immediately recognizable two-dimensional style, Sem creates types. From 1900 to 1914, 14 albums will come out of Sem's notebooks. Sem follows the rich and high society in its territories; In a few months, he would produce the gallery of portraits that provided models for Proust, Sacha Guitry and Jules Renard. In January 1906, Instantané, an illustrated supplement to the Revue Hebdomadaire, featured a photo in which the small, already tall man stood next to the tall Chaliapin, who towered over him with an arm around his shoulders.
