A popular Uzbek saying says: "The house begins where a carpet extends". In Uzbekistan, the carpet is a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of a family and, therefore, it is always part of the gifts offered to young people at their wedding. The Karakalpaks ("black hats") are an ethnic minority of Turkic origin who settled in Uzbekistan south of the Aral Sea. This carpet belongs to a rare type of tribal carpet with a brown area with two rows of octagons that immediately bring to mind the typical Turkmen carpet chute. At the same time, the two-headed animals represent purely tribal elements.
