Meissen porcelain figurine from the series The Cries of Paris, Lemonade Seller (Limonadenverkäufer). Model created by Peter Reinicke around 1753-1754. Marked with blue crossed swords and numbered 1, 20th century, height: 13.5cm. In very good condition, only a tiny chip on the inside of his coat, see photo. Listed in the Meissen Bergmann catalog. History of the Cries of Paris The criage appears there as a public service placed under the dependence of the royal authority. Men, women or children wandered in the streets and shouted their goods or services to attract customers. Each trade had its own characteristic cry. Meissen was inspired by these trades and created a series of 34 figurines with his characters.
