Gabriel Genieis entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in 1925 where he made brilliant studies and in 1929 obtained the second grand prix de Rome, which earned him a one-year stay in Madrid at the Casa Velasquez. He married the painter Marthe Colleye (1902-1990) in Paris on August 5, 1930[2]. Shortly after his return, he obtained a position as a drawing teacher in Algeria in 1933. In 1950, the City of Paris entrusted him with a teaching position for the preparation of students for the Professorat de dessin. Until 1969, he taught at the École de Dessin on Boulevard du Montparnasse, which is still visible today. These evening classes allowed him to devote himself to artistic creation in complete independence. Showing a predilection for contact with materials, he translated his artistic research by working successively or simultaneously on the art of frescoes, ceramics, or the creation of paintings with powerful colors and highly sought-after compositions. At the end of his career, he even worked with wool and created a set of tapestries with compositions that were always so elaborate. (wikipedia)
