"Rare 19th Century Birmingham Microscope Light Shield Cockade."
Out of its poor original cardboard box, the elements of this screen gape and stretch after such a long rest... All in brass and silk, this ingenious light screen is to be handled with more delicacy than before... the silk bears the trace of its martyrdom; proof of its lives of yesteryear... This instrument is used to block out the light when working with a monocular microscope. It is orientable and adjustable in height and rests on its cross-shaped brass foot. The site: histoiredumicroscope.com illustrates it very well and dates it from 1830. English. We can guess the signature VT Richards, (?) in Birmingham. A rare object if ever there was one and one that is very intriguing.
